Must haves: Butler's Pantry

Traditionally, a butler's pantry was used for storage, cleaning and counting of silver; European butlers often slept in the pantry, as their job was to keep the silver under lock and key. The wine log and merchant's account books may also have been kept in there. The room would be used by the butler and other domestic staff; it is often called a butler's pantry even in households where there is no butler.

How come you don't often find butler pantries in modern homes? When/ if I ever purchase a home it will have to have a butlers pantry or room to renovate and add one. I think they make the kitchen seem cleaner. And Id probably add the fridge an food pantry to it.

Accomplishment: Say goodbye to the holidays

Today I accomplished part one of cleaning up my apartment; taking down the Christmas decorations. Although its sad to see the holidays go, I know they'll be back before I know it. Not to make excuses but my storage shed is almost a half hour away from my apartment. Which makes everything much more inconvenient. Plus the whole idea of needing a storage shed is pretty bogus if you think about it..."I've got so much stuff I don't use I need to buy a second house for it." I guess that's what happens when you combine two houses of stuff into one apartment. Tomorrow I hope to start the process of getting this blog looking nicer. Hopefully this lovely lady can help a girl out. ;)

Accomplish something first

It was tough figuring out something to accomplish in so little time. I'm starting to remember why I never got anything done in the first place. But I suppose that if everyone else with a 9-5 can get things done, so can I. Today I realized how few photos of cars holding hands there are on the internet. Actually, there aren't any! How the heck has the world continued without anything on the internet of cars holding hands? So, here it is folks. I apologize of today's accomplishment seems meaningless. Good news is, I finally finished paying my dad for last months car payment. Christmas really pulled one over on me. This year I'll be more prepared for it. PS. Thank you for everyone who has been reading these. It really makes me feel more accountable for something. I hope you are all doing well.
PPS. My 500th sale is coming up! Any ideas on how I should celebrate? Giveaways, ect...?

A quick accomplishment

Its been a pretty gloomy out today. So I decided to plant my Paper whites that Brittany got me for Christmas. I had started to plant them on New Years but got sidetracked. I figured since you start them off indoors anyways and I have a movie appointment with the boy at 7pm its the perfect quick accomplishment for the day. When the start to grow I hope for them to look as beauty as the ones in this picture. I know its not a big accomplishment, but hey you gotta take baby steps right? This week I hope to accomplish getting health insurance and finally putting my car in my own name. FINALLY. Cheers and I hope everyone else is staying up with their resolutions thus far.

Accomplish something youve been putting off

Today was my first accomplishment for the year. My friend Diana gave me her ring for me to re size a few months ago. I don't know why I had put it off for so long. Well, mostly it was because I was out of pickle to clean it. Poor girl has been waiting so long to wear that thing...I hope shes not upset with me.
I think I've just had too many distractions around me lately. I need to focus more on my craft and my future than on people or things that aren't worth the energy to keep up with. There are so many things that I've been meaning to get down over the past year that I have just put off to hang out with someone or to do something that just gets canceled any ways. So for now on, no more doing anything until the accomplishment has been done for the day.

So I woke up this morning and read this article on Etsy.com. I was so inspired I knew I needed to get it. I have problems sitting down to create something without getting distracted. I thought maybe the book would help me get excited about a project. So I took a shower and quickly headed out to buy it. After reading and going over the book, I realized its not that my life is lacking creativity, but accomplishment. Im not gonna lie, I've started more projects that I havnt finished than you can imagine. I get it from my mother, who is a craft-a-holic and goes from craft to craft; never finishing the previous before starting a new. Its a bad habit. I feel if I feel more accomplished I will have an overall better well being. I will be able to create without feeling like I should probably be doing something else more important. So starting tomorrow, 1.9.11, I will accomplish something everyday for 365 days. Be it unfinished craft project, an unfinished task around the house, something ive been meaning to get done, an idea, a place to visit, person to see; this year I believe I will set out to do great things. That being said, I also hope to keep a promise to myself that I will document my work and keep a camera on hand at all times. So here is a toast to new beginnings and finally getting *ish done. ;)

I just finished my very first amber ring & Im so proud of it! :)
I used to work in a really cool jewelry store in the mall called White Buffalo. We had so many amber rings, but they were never big enough for me. So when I found this gorgeous, giant, amber cab I decided it was finally time to make something for myself. It took a whole season of Criminal Minds, 10 tiny leaves and a lot of patience to make. & Since my microwave is broken it was a pain in the butt to oxidize. But it came out beautifully. Im thinking about making more in the future.

Inspiration

After browsing around a bunch of blogs and treasuries last night I got the inspiration to create some simple yet interesting earrings. They can be worn multiple ways even; up, down, curve towards the face, or even curves facing outward. PutnamCourt's Watercolor painting inspired me to oxidize and brass brush the feathers. Deep in the crevices is a subtle black/blue hue. I'm so excited with them and can already tell they're going to be my everyday earrings.

Im working on a made to order piece right now in the studio and decided to take a quick break. Im listening some old The Shins and fantasizing about warmer weather and brighter nights. Im hoping to have more time to experiment on some new metals as well as some lapidary work. I recently joined the Tampa Bay rock and mineral club, only the peek of my geek-ness. Im excited to learn about every stone there ever was... Until then its back to my freezing cold little room where im off to create something you can wear on you little fingers.

The "My Hometown" collection features jewelry made from local agatized coral. Florida does not yet recognize a state fossil, but its state stone, agatized coral, is actually a fossil. Agatized coral can be any of many species of corals which have been replaced by agate, a variety of quartz chalcedony. It takes a very long time to form, and most of the agatized coral found today in the state lived in the vast Eocene seas which covered the state 35-40 million years ago, when Florida was part of the continental shelf. All of the stones in this collection have been mined in various parts of Florida.

Agatized coral provides the primary energy toward the activation of the divine nature and infinite perfection which is within the self. Agatized Coral can facilitate the projection of energy to create, to sustain, to change, to modify....

I just watched the most amazing short film ever. You can watch it here. ( click on the words "I put a spell on you")I wish everyday could be like this film. Its the kind of thing that really gets my creativity flowing. Its got beautiful imagery with a hint of spookiness to it. And the music, which features a couple songs by Glasser, just adds to the greatness of it. I wish I lived in the UK so I could get this issue of the magazine for $11 and have this kind of inspiration forever.

I started out my day trying to find a silky, satin vintage style skirt. But ended up with some great old childrens books from the 70s with amazing stories and pictures. I think ill frame my favorites later this week. It rained the rest of the day so I stayed in and made a couple pendants. My theme for the day was pyrite. Fools gold. ;)
After speaking with Maryjane about a brass colored Nita ring, it got me thinking about gold-toned natural stones. The hunt began. I found two really great specimens. The first, a calcopyrite stone. Which has brassy yellow tones, with slight iridescent purplish tarnish. And the second, my most treasured, a pyrite stalagmite. Which is a drip looking tube that rises up from cave floors, which in this case, had pyrite deposits around it. I set them both in sterling silver, oxidized and brushed them with steel wool. I think they turned out awesome. I think Zoe is especially fun, it looks like it would be perfect for a futuristic dance party.
Here's a few pictures of the pendant making process. Sorry for the dark pictures, we've been getting some much needed rain here in FL.

I'm glad I finally got around to making some more jewelry items. My tiny apartment flooded last week and I had to move everything out in one day. :( boo. But now I have a bigger, nicer one. A blessing in disguise I suppose.

I just got my tentacles in today! They look so good with all my other randoms. I added a cute lavender bow to match the dried lavender in the fish vase and to cover up the sealant. Another amazing oddity from Marytofts!

Little Otik

I just got done watching Little Otik with some friends, we picked it out because the preview looked intense. It ended up being pretty awesome and visually appealing. One of my favorite parts was in the beginning where babies were being swept up in nets like fish and sold in a market. The wood baby looks a lot a mandrake doll, like these ones Ive been wanting since I joined Etsy. "Little Otik is based on a Czech fairy tale about a childless couple who adopt a tree stump that looks like a baby. As usual with fairy tales, any deviation from normal behavior triggers disaster — in this case the stump comes to life, grows huge, and starts murdering and eating everybody and everything in its path. Svankmajer, who’s credited with story, screenplay, and direction, uses this narrative as a springboard for a genre-busting masterpiece about the perils of parenthood and what can happen to those who don’t leave well enough alone with the status quo nature has determined."
Its well worth a watch, if you like weird movies.
Next on my movie list is the 1988 Alice and Vertigo.

I've finally settled down enough from my new job so I thought it would be nice to work on a few new things finally. I love working with natural stones and found objects. They make things so much more unique and special. I get so excited about gems and minerals, I just cant stop collecting them.
I found this gem at my local weekend stomping ground and knew it would look perfect as a pendant. It just had that alchemy, relic, witchy sort of feel. I feel in love. I'll take you along a scenic ride of how it was made.

Hello everyone out there in blog land. I have been severely neglecting this blog since I moved into my new apartment. Which is really neat by the way. Ive never lived on my own before. Well, I guess I still haven't. I live with my Alex and our kitty Nathan Edward Explosion. All is good so far. Besides the stray that hangs around and makes Nathan angry with me because I wont let him have any fun.

In other news, since we don't have cable (and only one basic channel that come in clear) Ive been creating up a storm. Ive made many new hair accessories. Which have just about sold out already. And a few new jewelry pieces. I'm really excited to list the new stuff! I just need time to take pictures and a model that is available when I am. I would really like to get everything listed before fall is almost over. Here's a peak!

So Ive been sort of frustrated lately with the treasury....I had one i really did! and then in a split second it slipped through my hands! It was heart breaking. I'm bound and determined to get one now, but every time i know there will be one opening up the list goes from 333 to 765! Whats that all about??!? Anyways, Ill get one and it will be the most lovely thing you ever did see.

So I guess this is it. Alex is home and he wants dinner. Over and out best friend 2.

A big day for TheSocialCellar!

Today was a pretty big day for us here at TheSocialCellar. We are in the processes of giving our Etsy shop a complete makeover. We also got a new model, Sarah Goolsby. :) We are happy to have her aboard!

Before we got started we ate some of our favorite vegan spring rolls from Kalasia and then got down to business.
We had fun with our pretty awesome props. Including the rainbow which ironically we found in a closet.

During our photo shoot we had some neighborhood kids stopping by on their bikes to see what we were up to. They insisted we take their pictures...and seeing as how they were pretty cute little kids we did.

It was a long day but we sure had fun!

A Little more about us:
TheSocialCellar was created by 21 year old, Tampa artist/jewelry designer/student, Leah Corrine. She inherited her love for making things at an early age from her mother. After making many pieces of jewelry for herself and getting many complements on them from others she decided to make more to share with everyone around the world. TheSocialCellar has one main artist as of now but will be employing many other creators in the future. We have two very gorgeous models: Angela Ellis, and Sarah Goolsby. We are glad that they share a similar love for hand made items. The little sea horse looking guy is our logo. His called the Sea King. We love custom work!
